On June 7, 2013, Adobe announced their latest update to Adobe Experience Manager (AEM). Adobe Experience Manager 5.6.1 includes 158 new features and enhancements. The update’s focus is on better usability, and has additional add-ons for supplementary needs such as mobile site and app support, social communities, marketing campaign management, multi-site management, media publishers, and active clustering. It also provides increased functionality, bug fixes, consumer enhancements, and more stability. Specifically, Adobe focused on making all tasks related to the content lifecycle easier for authors, administrators, and developers. As a treat, the update includes a few previews of updates to come, such as sharing on board, touch-optimized UI for the WCM, and a binary datastore that uses Amazon S3 to host the data—a technological dream.

AEM 5.6.1 is a user-friendly, unified experience management suite for marketers in the digital realm to use in creating, managing, and delivering unique online experiences that are brand-centered and increase demand across digital platforms. This system is used for enterprise-level companies that have an extensive number of complex assets. AEM 5.6.1 uses Media add-on modules to deliver high-volume assets to multiple platforms.

A few of the 158 AEM 5.6 upgrades featured in AEM 5.6.1 are outline in detail below:

Web Content Management & Mobile

The big changes for Web content management and mobile result in increased productivity, better user experience, and more efficient workflow. For example, you now have the ability to drag and drop content directly from the content finder into the paragraph system, you can access recently edited pages from the Welcome page, and your images adapt size based on the device that is rendering the site.

Commerce

If you’re looking for something in the commerce department, look no further. You can now show recently-viewed products, make Product Importer more accessible, and you can have an “un-editable proxy page” in catalog creation. All of these things improve product discovery, accelerate updates, and enable more efficiency and extensibility.

Digital Assets

Digital assets are getting a makeover in this update with the introduction of Metadata Ingestion Templates, which increase the quality of your digital assets in the DAM. You can also now extract and manage sub-assets directly from Microsoft PowerPoint, as well as enjoy improved DRM to better enforce asset license and usage terms more effectively.

Marketing Campaign Management

Marketers can finally extend their email integration with ExactTarget and support for Silverpop Engage. You can also leverage CRM data from Salesforce.com to personalize user experiences, as well as get a new design component. Import designs from Web designers (using HMTL, CSS) into any page, and do it faster than ever before.

Adobe Cloud Integration

In regards to the Cloud, you will now have integration with Audience Management capabilities of the Adobe Media Optimizer Solution, which will broaden your reach of Client Context with visitor data collected through Adobe AudienceManager. AEM 5.6.1 will also provide increased support for video milestone tracking, allowing you customer video insights.

Media Publisher

Media Publishers will be able to define and configure scroll and paging behavior on magazine spreads. This will allow you to publicize high-quality touch and improve editor’s productivity. Additionally, publishers no longer have to define preview images, and you will have new touch-optimized publication administration, allowing you to be a part of re-defining touch-enabled productivity tools.

Social Communities

Create polls with this update, enabling you to get customer insight throughout your website. Additionally, forum posts and replies will now be available in the form of email, providing a more convenient and digestible way for members to stay up-to-date. Lastly, the AEM 5.6.1 update enables visitors to create events, which will drive your engagement up.

Deployment Options

Now you will be able to extend your replication. The new “batched” and “binary-less” modes allow optimized performance and replication. A preview technology available to you now is the use of Amazon S3 as a location for the Binary Datastore, which allows Cloud deployments and leverages the S3 storage to keep your binaries.

Server Operations

Server Operations will now have the ability to start servers with a “nosamplecontent” to avoid demo content from place-holding. Also, the Automatic Workflow Instances Purge and Improved Datastore Garbage Collector will reduce maintenance.

Developers

And last but not least, if you are a developer, Adobe has not forgotten you! You get to try out new API enhancements, including Social Graph, that will increase your efficiency. You also get an update to your LESS to keep your code maintainable.
